Scaphoid Fracture
A comprehensive overview of a non-displaced scaphoid fracture in a baseball player
What is a Scaphoid Fracture?
A scaphoid fracture is a fracture to one of the carpal bones in the wrist. The scaphoid is the carpal bone that is most likely to break. Scaphoid fractures account for 60% of all carpal injuries. The scaphoid has poor blood supply to the proximal region. The scaphoid is located on the radial side of the hand, distal to the styloid process of the radius. The scaphoid forms the floor of the tendious “anatomical snuffbox”. The scaphoid is accessible from the dorsal, palmar and radial side of the wrist.
